Sunday Post (3)

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. The Rules can be found here. And this week's post can be found here
3 of 52 weeks done and so far so good. I'm busy outlining a new novel that I plan to write, whilst finally writing the first draft of another story I'm working on, not sure yet if it'll be a novel or a novella. I've joined a writing group a few months ago that is really helpful. It's amazing how much constructive feedback can actually help improve.
I've been moving every day. Had some back pain earlier this week and still went out there and hobbled a very slow mile. At home I sat with a hot water bottle wedged between me and the chair or sofa.
When it comes to books, I'm doing the usual, I've started too many and now I have to finish them all before I can start any new ones.

I couldn't resist the second novel in the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown. I've started The Goldfinch by Donna Tart, though I'm not sure I'm in the right mood for that one. I've finished Atwood's The Year of the Flood and will review it next week. Sadly, I couldn't connect with it.

On my blog I've talked about underrated book in the Top Ten Tuesday post here. And I've reviewed La La Land, which I've seen at the cinema with my partner earlier this week.

I haven't really cooked anything exciting this week. Tried a mushroom sauce with paprika and sour cream combined with diced pork and a orange carrot ginger soup with coconut cream. Both were delicious.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

  1. Funny I also tried to read Atwood last week and couldn't connect 🙄 I absolutely loved Red Rising not sure why I'm procrastinating so much to read Golden Son. Hope to read it soon so we can chat about it 😊

    1. The second book started with a bang and it's already more gripping than the first one, no clue how he managed that! Hope you read it soon! And have a great week!

  2. Oooh good luck with the writing! That's so awesome :) What's the name of the writing group you've joined?

Happy reading, and I hope you have a fantastic week ahead!

    1. Thank you. It's a small group called Garage Fiction. We're 6-10 members and the idea is just like a band practices their music in a garage just jamming and improving we do the same together. Hope you have a great week.

  3. How are you enjoying Red Rising? I've been debating picking it up myself.
Yay for writing :) My computer crashed last year taking my almost completed novel with it. I haven't really written much since then, but miss it. Best of luck to you!

    1. Oh no, that is my worst nightmare. I tend to forget to do my backups and every now and then I'm aware that I have a lot of work that could just vanish!

I really liked the first Red Rising book. Imagine Hunger Games in space, that's a very simplified summary of what the first book is about. Just darker, grittier and different. Hoping the 2nd one will be just as good!

Thank you for dropping by and commenting :)

  4. It sounds like you are having a productive start to the year. I keep meaning to start the Red Rising trilogy. Maybe this year!

  5. I love the Red Rising trilogy. Sorry about the backpain. Walking is good, and will keep you from getting too tight. (hopefully) Are you doing ice and heat?

    1. Mostly heat, it started acting up because I was sitting in a room with a draft, so I'm guessing heat is better!

  6. I have loved several books by Atwood, but the books in the MaddAddam Trilogy were not ones I enjoyed. At all. Some were worse than others...The Year of the Flood was manageable, but the other two...I could barely get through them.

Too bad, as I loved The Handmaid's Tale and Blind Assassin.

I can relate to the back pain...years ago, I had back surgery, then physical therapy. Recently, I started having massages...and that's the ticket for me!

    Hope you feel better.

I want to see La La Land...saw 20th Century Women this weekend, and loved it.

Thanks for sharing, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

    1. Interesting, I really liked Oryx and Crake, didn't like The Year of the Flood, not sure whether or not to pick up the other book now. I thought the Handmaid's Tale was mediocre. I should probably read the Blind Assassin.

And oh no, back surgery sounds particularly painful. Thankfully not something I had to deal with. I have a knee for surgeries! Hopefully it stays that way.

  7. I normally read a book at a time but I have a few going right now, we'll see how that goes. :) Good luck with your writing, I think that's awesome! I think writing groups can be great feedback is so important.

  8. I'm a monogamous reader so can only read one book at a time, but easily get behind in my reviewing, which is the case at the moment!

Am keen to see LaLa Land but it's not opened here yet!

    1. Interesting, I used to only read one back at a time. As a child when I had hours to just read, I'd power through before starting a new one. Now sometimes I can't read for a day, then fancy something different and pick another book up. Not sure it always helps with comprehension!

  9. Well done for hitting those reading goals! I'm behind on my year so far but I hope to do some 'catch-up' reading soon.

Well done for still getting out there every day and I hope that your back pain improves! Did you injure yourself somehow? Or is it a chronic complaint?

I want to read Red Rising but just haven' got to it yet.

Your mushroom sauce and your soup both sound delicious - although we Southern Hemispherians are currently in summer so soups aren't sounding too great to try right now - I'll have to remember it for our winter!

Good luck with the writing and I'm so glad you're getting such good feedback. I hope that you have an awesome week further!

    1. You must read Red Rising if you don't mind some darkness in your reading. And no, definitely no soup in summer, haha!

  10. I still haven't made it to see La La Land. Maybe I can do that this weekend. I haven't read Red Rising but my husband read the whole trilogy last year and loved it. I hear that Pierce Brown is writing a spin-off series so that should be interesting. That mushroom sauce sounds divine! Is it dinner time yet? :)
